At least 22 people were killed and 71 others injured in a suspected suicide blast at a local market here on Friday.
Political administration claimed that it was a suicide attack. Other attackers also opened fire at the market. Security forces cordoned off the area and performed rescue operation. The political administration declared emergency at all hospitals in the area.
The bodies and injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital. Pakistan army conducted rescue operation along with police and rescue services. The blast targeted a mosque in Parachinar, a remote area bordering Afghanistan. The blast took place as people gathered for Friday prayers near the women’s entrance of a Shia mosque in the central bazaar.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and said the government would keep up efforts to eliminate the terrorism.
“The network of terrorists has already been broken and it is our national duty to continue this war until the complete annihilation of the scourge of terrorism from our soil,” he said in a statement.
Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari has strongly condemned blast in a market in Parachinar which reportedly killed over a dozen innocent citizens and injuring many more and called for effective measures to stop continuing bloodshed of innocent men, women and children.
In a statement, former President said that the attacks on citizens and the bloodletting of innocent people cannot and must not be allowed to go on with impunity. He called for immediate, decisive and credible measures to stop this barbarism. He prayed to Almighty Allah for eternal peace to the departed souls and early recovery for the injured. He also sympathized with the bereaved families.
According to hospital authorities, 24 people were killed and 95 others injured when a car packed with explosive ripped through the crowded Noor market where people were busy in routine business activities.
