Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated Pakistan’s largest oil refinery Byco Oil in Hub industrial area on Friday, with a crude oil refining capacity of 120,000 barrels per day, catering around 39 per cent of country’s energy needs. He also promised that more economic projects will be started in the province.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Byco oil refinery in Hub, he said development and prosperity of Balochistan is part of government policy. The government is making all possible efforts to make Gwadar Port functional.

Expressing his views about Gwadar port, he said that Gwadar will be developed as a beautiful free port and will have a special status. He also emphasized on the trade routes between Pakistan and Central Asia and said that Gwadar will be linked to Central Asia through different routes. He further said work on motorway from Gwadar to Quetta and onward to Ratto Dero is underway.

On his views about the law and order situation in Karachi, he said that it was the government’s responsibility to restore peace in the largest city of Pakistan.

“I am happy to say that peace in Karachi is better than before. All the terrorists involved in the Safoora tragedy are behind bars. I hope now that the courts would soon punish them,” he said.

He showed his trust in the law enforcement agencies and said that the brutal terrorist who attacked a bus full of innocent people in Karachi would be convicted in courts in “not years, not months but in weeks”. The ongoing Karachi operation will continue till all the terrorist are eliminated from the city, he said.

The Prime Minister said the terrorists are weakening and now they are targeting the innocent people. Nawaz Sharif said Operation Zarb-e-Azb is going in the right direction. Temporarily displaced persons are now going back to their homes.

Chief Executive of Byco Industries Amir Abbasi said the project, completed in six years, enjoys a substantial position in the value addition chain of hydrocarbon from the well-head to the consumer.

He said Byco had so far invested US$750 million into country’s infrastructural and industrial development.

After the inauguration of Byco Oil refinery in Hub, the prime minster is expected to attend an event hosted by the PCCI in Karachi.
