Asfandyar Wali, Chief of Awami National Party (ANP) has demanded Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to dissolve assembly and give up government after the alleged rigging in the local body (LB) polls.
“In Local body (LB) elections, maintaining the law and order was the responsibility of the provincial government”, he said in a media briefing expressing his opinion after a meeting with ANP think tank.
Referring to the arrest of former minister Mian Iftikhar, ANP chief said that it was distressful and that ANP supporters would take revenge with “interest”. We have faced and survived oppression many times before and we do not fear jails, he added.
Asfandyar Wali demanded federal government to hold the provincial and LB elections again in KP. ANP chief said, Imran has offered to hold LB polls again but how we let a “thief” become a guard again after what happened.
He urged the federation to strengthen the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) so that no party has to complain about rigging. How come Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and the then interim goverment leader Najam Sethi were responsible for rigging General Elections 2013 in Punjab but ECP is responsible for LB polls rigging in KP and not the provincial government? Asked Wali.
