In a virtual qualifying battle for the playoffs’ berth, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians battle it out in Hyderabad tonight in the final league game of the Indian Premier League. The winner will go into the playoffs. The loser will bow out. Or, if the match is abandoned due to rain, both the teams will head to the exit lounge together. If Royal Challengers Bangalore fails to win against Delhi Daredevils, then the winner of this match will grab the second position on the points table.

[According to the IPL rules, the position on the points table is determined of course by the number of points. In case of a tie of points, teams with the most number of wins will get the first priority. If all the teams have scored the same number of points and same number of wins, the team with the better net run rate will get the top position.]

Preview – SRH

Sunrisers seem to have peaked at the right moment. David Warner is continuing his scintillating run with the bat in the tournament, even though he would want to be a bit more careful when celebrating catches in the future. Moises Henriques has been the surprise package for Sunrisers in the second half of the IPL. He has been bowling well and batting sensationally. The team looks formidable in all departments. With a bit more luck, they would have ensured their playoffs berth already. Now, all they need to do is to defeat Mumbai Indians.

Preview – MI

Mumbai Indians have lost just two games in the last nine matches. That incredible run has taken them to the cusp of playoffs qualification. They need just one more win to secure it. The team has shown a kind of never-say-die attitude right through the season, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat on a couple of occasions. The team has found new heroes whenever they were dire need of one. Perhaps, it is time now for the established stars like Rohit Shrma and Keiron Pollard to assert their personality on this match.

All three results are equally possible: a Mumbai win, an SRH win or rain.
