The threat of rain looms large on the Indian Premier League match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Daredevils (DD). The match is important for RCB because a win could take them to the second position in the points table. If that happens, they will meet Chennai Super Kings in the first playoffs. In that case, they will get one more chance even if they lose that match.
If the match is abandoned due to rain, they still have a chance to gain the second position. But it depends on the outcome of the final league match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians.
If RCB loses the match, they will still qualify for the playoffs, but as the fourth-placed team. In case of a defeat, both RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders finish with 15 points. RCB has a better net run rate than Knight Riders, so they will move to the playoffs.
In that sense, whatever happens in this match, RCB will qualify to the playoffs. Still, if they don’t lose this match, they are likely to finish at the second position on the points table.
Preview – RCB
Things have fallen nicely in their places for RCB. Batting looks formidable, with Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers firing at the top. Mitchell Starc has led the bowling superbly. Still, RCB has a tendency to freeze occasionally. They play well below their potential rather unexpectedly. That is when they lose points. The path in front of them is clear. Win the next three matches, the IPL crown is theirs.
Preview – DD
Delhi Daredevils have nothing to lose. They have already lost everything. They will look forward for a happy ending of a largely unhappy season. Perhaps, they may rather prefer rain to playing what is an inconsequential game for them.
If rain stays away, RCB is going to emerge victorious.
